The fan isn't the only thing in the box making noise-the drives do a lot of rattling and whining too- especially if your HD has a high speed spindle. I finally resorted to cutting a hole in the wall(with a 3" hole saw) and putting the computer on the other side of the wall. All the cables still reach. I figured what the heck, it's my wall.....
