This year we will be purchasing a PC for our home. Needless to
say, besides home finances, word processing, e-mail, internet
access and games, I want to use it for recording. I have read
the articles by Dan and Eddie on this site, but I am still foggy
on what I will need to have a whole home recording setup on PC.
Let's say I get a big fast PC with tons of mem and a CD burner.
Can anyone point me to a source that can guide, in detail, a
beginner through this process? I guess my trouble is I see all
these products and don't get what all they do. There's $300
soundcards, there's $800 soundcard/recorders(?), there's outboard
converters and interfaces, there's all that damn software,
can my 4 track still be of service, etc. Cost of PC aside, let's
say I was looking to spend $1000 on a set-up I could grow into
and add to. Is that reasonable? Recommendations?
