Well, as some of you might know, I have been battling with a noisy sound card for months now and I never could figure out why it was so hissy and noisy. Well, I figured out the problem: the PC motherboard.
It seems (and I could be wrong but) that the motherboard bus (or ground for that matter) carried the electromagnetic "crap" which caused my sound card to sound like "crap". I tried shielding and everything and nothing helped. But I bought a new PC over the weekend and as I hooked everything up I tested the old sound card completely on the new motherboard and ... NO HISS and NO NOISE. Now for those who care, my sound card is an ancient AVM APEX with 32M of RAM for sampling (which don't do too much of).
Moral of the story: don't always blame the most "obvious" source for problems in a PC setup.
Cheers.
