Well, THAT's pretty obvious! I guess it's smarter to record performances without clips isn't it? As much as one might try bad things do happen. Otherwise I wouldn't see this post every three months or so... Hey, sure "fix it in the mix" is a lot harder to do than getting it right the first time, but often, especially with live performances, you've only got ONE shot to make things right. When there's a problem you can't go back in time and "redo the session".

Auto Tune has nothing to do with correcting bad musicianship... well, it does, actually, but the reason I want it is that CLIENTS are asking for it. You don't hear too much on the radio that hasn't been Auto Tuned at some point- anyone recording vocals worth their salt has one in their rack or on their DAW. I don't really want to debate whether that's a good or bad thing, because I honestly don't care. Sometimes I just give 'em what they ask for! But there are some VERY talented singers running their tracks through it... and it's really not intended to make bad sound good- it's designed to tweak good and make it really good.

It *is* possible to oversaturate analog tape and make it clip, too... and yes, horribly oversaturated distorted analog tape recordings sound like crap too, when they're supposed to be clean!
