If your band has a mixer you might consider a used 8 track like fostex R8
they are a reel to reel unit that records on 7 inch tape and have dolby c
noise reduction. You can find them used on ebay for
about 400 to 425.
I have one and love it. Its my second one.
They are easy to use and transport and the tape cost is only about 12.00
per reel. you get about 17 minutes of record time
from a reel. And the sound qaulity is far better then a cassette unit.
