Yep, I know what you're talking about. I specifically like the old U2 "War" type bass sounds. I just haven't been able to get that shit. They had low mid growl back then with a little snap, all right on the verge of breakup. And all the bass sounds seemed to have this ambiance. I can't get anything close and it's starting to piss me off! It's gotta be a micd cab and I'm sure there were a couple of mics/preamps that were standard back then for this sound. What were they is the question I guess.
