I know this topic has come up (like yesterday's burrito after an all night drinking binge) before, but...
Awright...I'm thinking on dropping a coupla bucks. I've got a Mackie 1402. The general opinion is that I want an external preamp in addition to, (or to bypass?) the Mackie's onboard preamps. I'm looking at a possible JoeMeek VC3Q. Of course, there's a more expensive souped up VC1Q too. Where did they trim the fat on the VC3Q? And, as I mentioned before, I've only got a C1000S for a multipurpose condenser mic right now. Which purchase would give me the most mileage, a JoeMeek or a large diaphragm condenser (assuming quite accurately that I can't afford both right now).
And wipe that sh*t-eating smirk off your face...(LOL).
