If I'm understanding you correctly, you might want
to try using a push-pull knob for the extra
volume knob. This would allow you to split/combine
and adjust the bridge hum with just one switch.
One thing to be careful of, though is that the vol
knob is a potentiometer - it adds resistance to the
circuit. It might make one of the coils in the hum
a bit weaker than the other. Then again, if you just
use the top end of the vol knob for blending, you
may not notice it.
