I like my Joe meek comp a lot. I have the VC3. They are unlike regular comps in that the are used to color the sound and give it that 60's punch and sparkle.
They are photo electric compressers like the old days. The 5 stage mic pres are nice as well.
The controls are not convetional either. It is a great tool but should not be your only compresser.
