Well, uh, Now that we see you are mainly concerned
about vocals, I have a couple of comments.
I have soundboard covering one wall of my studio tracking
room and ended up covering it up with carpet.
It doesn't impress me,(although if I were rich I
believe JBL foam would impress me).
Anyway, for some strange reason which is sort-of beyond
me to figure out, the sound material I do have actually
works best BEHIND the singer. I mean, no comparison.
Everytime it's the same. But my tracking room is larger
than yours so it may be a material difference. But
I'm telling you that if you have the singer singing
towards the soundboard, you would think that would
be less of the original reflection going back into
the mic, but in real life I've never found it thatg way
at all. At my studio, with the sound stuff behind the
singer, it is almost as if there is NO wall 20 feet
away for sound to reflect back from. You don't hear
anything coming back at all.
One more thing, if you are in a rental you better not
glue that stuff on the wall, you're better of hanging
it with wall anchors (the self-drilling type would
be ok but you better use fender washers if you
are going to be holding the soundboard UP as well
as against the wall.
