Ok, she's gained just a wee little respect back.
Actually, she was far more eloquent than I ever
expected from her. I'm glad that she's seeing
napster and the like as an opportunity to shake
up the old establishment for a better way. I hope
she succeeds!
I do agree with the points some of you made that
signing bad deals is the easy way for the artists,
and with that, the record companies will probably
always find their prey. I think a lot of new artists
sign bad deals out of true ignorance, thinking that
a record deal means sure wealth.
Frankly, I write music for the enjoyment it gives me.
The reason it sits on a shelf in my den is that I
have no desire to sell my soul to have someone else
hear it. The odds of truely having it heard are such
that the typical record deal isn't worth it!
Perhaps with time, people like Courtney will make
a difference by getting the word out that not all
the artists are rich, and that there is a better way
to enjoy music! Then maybe I'll dust off some of my
recordings and see if someone will listen.
