That's an interesting point - I have to remember (and should inform you guys) that I am unfortunately trying to get a "bang for the buck" solution here, and maybe I should establish a "ball park" for all to compare against. The only comp I have ever used is (are you sitting down for this one) the Alesis NanoComp. I know, not every engineer's dream, but I AM ready to upgrade. I won't say I love the nano, but I think I use it in such little doses that I haven't allowed it to do much damage to my mixes. "Less is more" is definitely my motto - even with effects, but that's another story altogether. Now knowing what comp I'm comparing everything to, would any of you like to change your answers? I did record a solo album on my MD8, with the equipment list cosisting mostly of an AT4033 & Rode NT1 for mics, the NanoComp, Behringer Virtualizer (not pro), Martin OM28VR acoustic, Yamaha bass, and acoustic drums mic'd with the old "combo" mic package - a few 57s, 58s & the 2 condensers. If any of you would like a complimentary copy of this disc - please step forward! It would probably help you get an idea what my ears are like, and you might just like the songs. It's the least I could do for all the help. Thanks!
Maury
