Yeah, it may be that I could really get away with just 4 channels. I've been recording a 9-song CD for a paying customer, and his band has had a habit of tracking vocals that differ in volume from one chorus to another. Also, the bass could be a bit more consistant too. I was gonna use the comps to limit these volume discrepancies at mixdown, to aid in a quicker mix. So far, we've had to set (and double check) levels for every vocal channel at every line of every harmony part. I DO comp these parts when they're recorded, but on overdubbs, these guys get all kinds of confidence the 10th time they sing it, and my input level is forver changing, and I'm afraid to squash too much right off the bat.
