I'd second the advice for the RNC. Also i'll add my vote for the Behringer Multicomp, 4 mono comps in one rackspace for under $200. And personally I like them better than the Alesis. Both are OK as long as you don't get too high on the settings, and conversely don't expect them to be gentle. The Behringer's are a little more subtle than the Alesis, tho!

Is there a reason you'll need all that compression? Sounds like a LOT of compressing going on when you consider the MD unit uses a little compression when it records. Is there a specific sound you're going for or a reason you need all that compression?
