what you want to know is:
"Equipped with MIDI In, Out and Thru terminals, plus various MIDI control options such as MIDI Time
Code (MTC) transmit which permits the MD8 to control play of an MTC-compatible music sequencer or
desktop music system, plus MIDI Machine Control (MMC) receive which permits an external MIDI
sequencer to control play of the MD8. A Tempo Map function lets you determine up to 26 Meter
change and 26 Tempo change events per song, thus giving you flexible options for precise control of
playback timing."Done deal. You need:
1) soundcard with at least one LINE IN. Quality varies from real bad to excellent. A better card will give you much better results.
2) midi "in" port somewhere on your computer. If you don't have one you can add one real easily- I added one by getting a MOTU MIDI Flyer, which attaches to your printer port and makes two midi ports. You can still use your printer, BTW. I think it was about $69.
3) at least one MIDI cable- two if you want to control the MD8 via MMC.
4) decent cables that can interface the audio out of your tracks to the LINE IN on your computer soundcard.
5) a multitrack recording program that can slave to MTC, and if you want to control the MD8 with the computer it needs to be able to send MMC.
6) some time to set this stuff up.
You won't need the 8-in card right now unless you just feel you have to have it. It will take you more time to transfer tracks with less than 8 in's becasue of the multiple passes you'll need to make to get all the tracks in.
Hey, happy day, huh! Good luck!
