Nope, that was Lars' fault- he mixed and I think also produced the album. The kicks sound great, that's the style he goes for (a la Pantera et al) with the high end "beater clicks". The idea is that you can ~hear~ the fast 16ths on the kicks, which you can't hear if the drum sound is a lump of mud. The PROBLEM here was that the entire drum mix, particularly the kicks, were WAYYY to high in the mix- in my opinion. Drowned out the guitars, which was insane. But that's what happens when you have an egomaniac doing your mix- it would've been guitar heavy if Lars was a guitarist.
