-That's what our band does recording with 8 tracks. The same drum set up and we track 2 guitars, bass, and a vocal or keyboard, usually vocal. Then we can overdub keys and backup vocals.

With a digital source it's not a problem."-I definitely agree with this one. It's a problem with both 4 track cassette and ADAT (analog outs). The best thing to cure it after it's on the PC is to line all tracks up at the beginning and time stretch/compress to line up the ends. It does take some work to get it right though.
