I dunno about the Black album for sure, but I can say with certianty that much of the 80's metal drum sound was triggered.
The current trend of recording acoustic drums is a direct result of 90's throwbacks doing what was done in the 70's. In the middle 80's for the most part people were getting laughed at if they weren't triggering. Now, it's like people have discovered that those drum thingies really do make an OK sound all by themselves. Triggering was supposed to be easier and sound better. It isn't and it doesn't. It's not better, not worse- just different.
