Or...you could just turn the balance control on the
Stereo you are using to listen with (monitor) all
the way left or all the way right. One side will
backwards (garbled) and the other should be normal
sound. Assuming, of course, that the speed is the
same as the machine that recorded the original
mono tapes. If not, you will here the normal sounds
at probably either twice the speed or one half the
speed.

At any rate, if you just listen to only the Left
and then listen to only the Right side, one will
sound correct.

You could then dub (i.e. copy) the one side onto
some newer recorder - even a cassette.
