I believe you and Silent Bob are referring to the studio use of a Vocoder, while Tedster was referring to the live use. When used live you use the tube similar to the old "talk box" or "voice box" used with guitar. I still have my old talk box that I made myself back in the early 70's when Blow by Blow first came out. I should pull it out of the moth balls and try it out again. Don't know if my teeth (or fillings) can handle it anymore though.
