The recording bug has finally bit my brother (it bit
me a while back...). For his graduation, he wants my
parents and I to get him an 8 track. He'll use it
primarily for recording a cappella music (doing the Bobby
McFerrin thing). He's never used a personal multitrack
before, so I want to get something simple. Also, for the
sake of portability, I wanted to get something that had
built-in effects (he should only be using delay-type effects
like reverb, chorus, and delay, and maybe compression).
My two choices seem to be Rolands VS880EX (or Vexpanded)
and Korg's D8. I know quite a bit about the 880, but not
much about the D8. I was hoping someone on this board
could help me out. Specifically...
1) How many tracks can the D8 record at once?
2) Are the effects decent and fairly easy to implement?
3) What do you do when the hard disk fills up? I have an
AkaiDPS12, so I can burn a cd when my drive is full. Can
you hook up a cdr drive to the SCSI port on the D8 and
do backups/burn audio cds?

Thanks in advance for the info.
