It's sad, but I don't really think it will catch on. The average consumer is too in love with their DVD, doesn't care about sound quality like we, and a few hundred audiophilles do, and think 16-bit CD is just fine. Hell, the average person doesn't even know what 16-bit audio is! SACD also won't do surround sound at this time. But, it uses no lossy data compression.
DVD audio will win out and it is inferior. Sigh!
