Just read the instructions that come with the deck,
be it MCI, Studer, Sony, Otari, or whatever. Even though
instructions are boring, but I don't think I've ever
read an article about calibration that wasn't boring
...unless it was just commentary. Basically, you are
usually calibrating your machine to the particular
type of tape you are using, so that what goes on,
comes off.
Anyway, I guess I shouldn't have posted this, cause
I don't believe I could write a decent article, butg
it's a tedious and boring duty..calibrating a tape
machine, that is... especially if it's a 24 (if
you're lucky enough to have a newer one that does
it automatically, I envy you....I think on those all you
have to do is physically align the tape (you know, once
in five years or so) and possibly
give it the right bias to start with, and it does the rest.).
