yeah I track real guitars & bass - MIDI record drums & keyboards - only downside is I don't have a computer/hard disk based system so if I decide to change the arrangement, or tempo - I"m fucked. Have to re-record the MIDI sync - the drums & keys of course will follow but everything else has to be redone.
Fortunately, I've rarely had this happen. I usually work out arrangements and tempos beforehand and usually record a quick scratch demo to review before breaking ass to get final guitar/bass/vocal tracks.
