5 best soundcards for DAW on PC (Intel Pentium 233MHz)

Hello All. I was wondering if I could pick your brains again
and ask if you might post your 5 favorite sound cards in
regards to AUDIO I/O. I understand that MIDI tends to be the
big thing in audio cards, but I'm looking to do DAW on my PC
(mostly) and use the standard MIDI DIN connectors to run my
keyboards and things like that for MIDI.

With that in mind, what are the top 5 sound cards you might buy
and why? 8 in/ 8 out cards (like Even Layla) are cool too ...
I heard the Sound Blaster Live! Drive cards were pretty clean
sounding ... would it make a difference if you go PCI card over
ISA slot cards?

Any and all information helpful in making an informed decision
about what I might buy to replace my current card: AVM Apex
which is so noisy recently it's obviously dying slowly.

I was looking to upgrade anyways soon.
