I would start with a Mac G4 with Cubase VST. TThis is both a really powerful midi seq, and multitrack/mixer/effects at one place.
Than i would choose a powerful masterkeyboard with a good keyboard and really good sounds onboard. I think Kurtzweill K2000 would be a good choice.
This would be a pretty small but powerful midi-studio, wich is easily expanded with greater soundcard for audio etc.
if i would have a mixer i would absolutly look for the Yamaha 01V, wich i am going to by myself in a couple of weeks or so.
