If your regular CD ROM is faster than your burner, you shouldn't have any problems. It's usually the oppposite... you want your CD-ROM to keep up with your burner. If you're doing data, try creating an ISO9660 image file first and then burning the CD from that. Most CD programs allow you to write to an image first.
