JR...
Thks for taking the time to respond.
Let me clarify just a little...we may be talking about the same thing...but I am enough of a novice to not know. The problem I am having, not only with pre-amping, but also even when I push the fader and gain (without the pre-amp) on my 4-track is a background hum. I don't seem to be able to get rid of the hum, and, obviously, the pre-amp really accentuates it. Any EQ adjustments that I am able to make (with the equip I currently have) are on my 4-track. I have high, mid and low sweeps. So far I haven't gotten much out of those in terms of really adjusting the quality of the sound, i.e. eliminating the noise/hum.
Any further words of wisdom either about technique or equipment would be greatly appreciated.
