Well, if you had a DAW and used a program that supports DX plugins, you can get some pretty damn good results using Sonic Foundry's Acoustic Mirror. Basically it applies the sonic characteristics of an impulse file to your recorded wave file. The impulse file can be of an acoustic space... room, hall, whatever... or of an electronic device... amp, comp, mic-pre, mic, etc. I've produced some great results recording direct, than applying some CLEAN fender amp impulses. The clean Marshall and Chieften impulses I've played around weren't too bad either. Throw in some Neumann U87 impulses Neve mic pre impulses and you've got a virtual multi thousand dollar signal path just like that!
