I don't know which model drum machine you have, but if I remember correctly (been awhile since i synced a drum machine) most drum machines generate there own midi timecode. Look in your manual to see if yours does. Assuming it does, you just record the timecode to one track on your deck, and then send the signal back to the drum machine. You have to make sure that the drum machine is set to sync to midi timecode and not internal. I used this system for many years when I used a 4 track cassette, and it works very well.

I think the machines have Sync in and Sync out jacks. I'll have a look at my R5 to see what it has.
