Is there a particular reason you are going direct? Why aren't you miking your amp? There are good reasons for going direct, of course, but "natural" clean tone isn't one of them (unless you're going thru some sort of amp simulator box--which simulate miked cabinets anyway). Usually going direct means going for a kind of super-dry, airless, up-front sound. That shimmery sound you hear live has a lot to do with the air getting pushed around by your speaker, not just the tubes.
