it depends on what you're doing. If you just want to mix to you computer, all you need is a 5,400RPM IDE drive with 2GB. If you want to record individual tracks, mix, edit & master all within your computer, you'll want at least a 7,200RPM drive with 4GB or more. If you're doing this, you might invest in a better soundcard like a Creative Ensoniq ($70 I think) or something designed for pro audio like an Echo Darla ($300 US). Those are excellent cards and are 24 bit instead of 16 so they have 256X the dynamic range of regular sound cards.
