Maybe so, but it's the equipment that conveys the ideas which move people. I have a tone of old recordings that I love, it would be nice to hear them better though.
This point has come across this site before. Mention of the Beatles came up. they always had cruddy recordings but people listened to them because they loved their songs. But you must remember, if recording quality wasn't important, industrial studios would have "My First Sonys" for their primary workhorses and this site wouldn't exist.
