I'd run directly to the D-80 if possible. But if you need compression, try to do it during tracking. The object is do all volume BOOSTING as early in the recording process as you can to keep the noise floor down. Compressing during tracking will also get you higher resolution because with the compression, you can get a hotter signal to the D-80. That's important b/c even though your machine has very good 20bit (or so I've read) converters, it only has 16 bit storage so you want the hottest signal you can get before the D-80.
