I'd for sure bypass the Mackie. The ideal is just a good mic into a good pre straight to tape. Then add other stuff at mix time. Less hiss, noise and signal degradation.At mix time you can probably run from tape --> into your tube pre --> then into the insert return of the Mackie (thereby bypassing the Mackie mic pre yet again). For sure worth a try.
