Personally, I prefer to EQ durring mixdown, becaus like tim and bob said, it's permenant once on tape. But just to play devil's advocate...(hee hee) You might want to use it on tracking to MAKE SURE you have the exact sound on tape that is coming from the amps. This will require a little back and forth A/B'ing or even steping into the room it's being recorded at. The guitarist may have spent 2 hours on getting that sound and you want to make sure it's there. But usually, less is more during tracking. Or should I say...always?!
