Subject: OK - One more silly song
Posted by: jamesbmitchell
I was dared by a good songwriting friend and collaborator recently to write a song QUICKLY and post it on a worldwide songwriting board I read.  I have a tendency to over-think lyrics and take years to write them, as does she.  So, it was a "dare" from one of our kind to another.

I told her, "I guess it would force me to confront my fear of looking stupid! But what would I write about?"  She said, "Write about that!"  So I did.  Wrote it in five minutes and posted it before I could second-guess myself.

I "hear" it as a talking song, sort of "Big Bad John", if you remember that one.

(is that really necessary in this case?)

He didn’t actually mean to die
It’s just what happened as time went by
I guess he was a victim of circumstance
The tragic thing is that one word
Quickly spoken and quickly heard
Would have given him… a second chance

It all got started when he caught his tie
In the paper shredder that he stood by;
His first clue was a not-so-gentle yank.
At first he felt a touch of shock
That grew to fear as that next doc-
u-ment was headed… for the tank.

His first thought to cry out in pain
Was stifled as his mind explained
The problem to a picture of his boss.
The end result of endless jokes
By laughing friends and vicious folks
Seemed to him… too high a cost.

So to make it look like a normal scene
He propped an elbow on the machine
And casually waved to people passing by
Gears slowly ground to pull him through
But those who passed  hm never knew
This was a man… about to die.

And, in the end, the coroner came
Read the clues and spread the blame
And dealt with what was left of our poor chum.
Just what was listed as the Cause
Should give us chills, and give us pause,
Ironically…. “A Fear of Looking Dumb”

Funny one James.  Tossing out a quick and humorous one is a great way to get some things out of the system before we get back to the "serious" business of writing our epics.  One day soon I'll post my lengthy fun song, full of genies, leprechauns and gypsies.

LOL

Well, it's not Shakespeare, but it was a fun exercise.  I HOPE I learned something from it.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.....

I actually got too close to a shredder one time wearing a scarf around my neck.

I was lucky to think fast enough to reverse the blades....

never shread when you are daydreaming or wearing black...

I know I learned a couple of things. One, never wear a tie and two, don't work in an office.

Excellent.

Well then, Dan, you're ahead of me!    It took me nearly twenty years to learn the first one, and I'm still working on learning the second one.

Thanks for the compliment.
