Subject: Per ol' Dan's request to lighten up...
Posted by: Tom_Ward
Here's a silly little rockabilly tune for you.  The lament of a longtime Springsteen fan.  Supposed to sound like his rock n roll hits of the mid 80's.

I Wanna Be Bruce (But I Look Like Me)

I can’t play the guitar
Not even a lick
I start trying to sing
My own kids get sick

I could try a red bandana
Black boots, tight jeans
But it just won’t look the same
With them bursting at the seams

Cause there’s only one problem
Mister, can’t you see?
I wanna be Bruce
But I look like me

I’ll never be on stage
You won’t be seeing me on tour
You can bet you’ll never find this song
In any record store

And I know I won’t be out there making bundles of cash
After all who’d buy an album covered with my ass?

(Short little guitar break)

Now I know this tale is sad, and it’s oh so true,
But what’s a guy like me supposed to do?

So sit right back Mister
An’ listen to my plea
I wanna be Bruce
But I look like me.

I could be travelin’ round the world
I would stand out in the crowd
Play for all the pretty girls
And have them follow me around

But there’s just a little problem
Bet you know what it might be
I wanna be Bruce
But I look like me

Oh just one time
To count ah 1, 2, 3
I wanna be Bruce
But I look like me

Tom,

Great stuff!  I absolutely love the hook "But I look like me".  I think you should generalize it a bit - make it not just Bruce.  Bring in other folks - Tom Cruise, etc... what the heck, Lyle Lovett would make a great ending - you could do alot with that!

I continue to enjoy your posts.  Keep 'em coming.
